EV Charger Not Charging? Safe Checks and Support

EV charger not charging? Record the status, schedule and fault message safely, then contact Eclipse Electrical for charger support and assessment.

Home › EV charging problems

When an EV charger stops charging, the displayed status and timing are useful starting points. Check only normal user controls described by the manufacturer, and stop using equipment that is damaged, hot or showing signs of an electrical fault.

Stop first if there are warning signs

Do not use a charger or cable with visible damage, a burning smell, unusual heat, sparks or water damage. Keep people away and seek electrical help. For smoke or fire, move to safety and call 111. Do not open the charger, touch internal components or bypass a protective device.

Our EV charger installation and support service includes fault investigation. Tell us about any safety warning when you contact us so we can understand the situation.

Read the ordinary user status

If the equipment appears safe, note the charger display or indicator and the vehicle’s message. Use the manual for your model to interpret the user status. A light colour or code can mean different things on different chargers.

Record the exact wording rather than summarising everything as a power problem. A photograph of the screen can be useful. Do not keep resetting the charger or switchboard to clear a recurring fault.

Check schedules and charge limits

Through normal user controls, check whether the vehicle or charger has a scheduled start time, a target charge limit or an authorisation step. A car that has reached its configured target may be waiting rather than faulty. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for ordinary connection and user checks.

Where fitted, load balancing may also reduce or pause charging. Record other household loads and the time of the pause for the installer; leave installation settings unchanged.

Make a support record

  • Charger make, model and installation date if known.
  • Vehicle model and current battery level.
  • Exact status, indicator pattern or error code.
  • When the problem started and whether it is intermittent.
  • Recent app updates, changed schedules, power interruptions or building work.
  • Any damage, heat, noise or protective-device operation.

Keep your installation paperwork and manufacturer support information available. Do not attempt to reproduce a dangerous symptom for a video.

Arrange the right next step

The cause may involve vehicle settings, charger configuration, communications or the electrical installation. We use your observations to plan an assessment and identify whether manufacturer support is also needed. Tell us if the charger was installed as part of other recent electrical work.

If replacement or installation changes are recommended after assessment, our EV charger quote checklist helps define the equipment, route and electrical work separately.

Questions about EV charging problems

Can a charging schedule make the charger look faulty?

Yes. A configured schedule or target battery limit may leave the charger waiting. Check the normal user settings for your vehicle and charger.

Should I open the charger to check a connection?

No. Leave internal checks and fixed electrical work to the appropriate professional. Record the visible status and contact us for support.

Send us the charger model and exact message, and tell us when the problem began. We can help plan the next step for your charger and electrical installation.
